Pace of Play

Have you noticed the sign at the first tee?  You should be keeping pace with the group in front of you. Here are a few ideas to assist with your pace of play without making it feel like a race.  If everyone pays attention to these suggestions, it will be more enjoyable for all members at ERCC, regardless of the time you tee off.

6       Play READY GOLF – there is no penalty for “hitting out of turn” unless it provides an advantage to others in your group (see rule 10-2c).

6       Be prepared when it is your turn to hit  (select clubs ahead of time).

6       Play “ready golf” at the tee or allow “short hitters” to tee off first.  You will actually benefit on the first and second shots using this suggestion.

6       Pay attention to where carts or bags are left … preferably at the location where you leave the green and head to the next tee.

6       Line up putts while others are putting.

6       Limit practice swings.

6       Be aware of the position of the group in front and behind you.  If you are falling behind, reduce the chatting and move more quickly to your ball.

6       When using a cart, take more than one club with you.

6       If you put your glove on or take it off for certain shots, do so before it is your turn to hit.

6       If you need to pace off the distance from a marker, do so before reaching your ball (don’t pace to both the marker behind and in front of your ball).

6       A person playing from a bunker or the rough should hit first (and rake while the other player is getting ready to hit).

6       If you are playing in a mixed group, ladies should hit first on #7 (back tee), #12 and #18 while the men are walking to the tee.

6       Record scores at the next tee box (while others are hitting).

6       Except in special tournaments, pick up when you are out of the hole (or have reached your maximum).

6       If you are not closing the gap using the above hints, have the first person that putts out proceed immediately to the next tee and hit, followed by the 2nd to putt out.  The third to putt out should get the flag to place in the hole after the last player putts.

6       If all else fails and you have a hole open in front of you, ALLOW FASTER PLAYERS TO PLAY THROUGH.
